2018

It has been a happy new year in January, with a grant from 
Unwin Charitable Trust and more than £1,100 from the Bradford Chamber dinner - we are the Chamber President Nick Garthwaite's joint charity of the year. Thanks to all who attended the dinner and gave so generously.

2017

November: We celebrated our 5th birthday with a fab party > read more here

July: We are thrilled to have been chosen as the Bradford Chamber of Commerce President's Charity of the Year for 2017-18. Thank you to the new President, Nick Garthwaite, of Cristeyn's.

July: Children at Midland Road nursery school and children's centre (see pic below) were each given a free book as an Eid present at Eid parties. The books came from THE SIOBHAN DOWD TRUST and GIVE A BOOK, two small charities which were set up by two authors for the proceeds of their work to fund book-giving projects with the aim of helping children and adults enjoy reading. May: Fantastic blog from children's author and illustrator Petr Horacek about his return visit to Canterbury children's centre. He visited last year in partnership between us and Bradford Literature Festival and inspired children, families and staff! Read his blog here

11 January: Sad news that Little Horton ward in Bradford (where our Canterbury scheme operates) has the highest childhood deprivation levels in the district. We are really glad we can work here as literacy is a way out of poverty. Read the report here

January: Big thanks to Unwin Charitable Trust for their generous donation. It really helps so many children. 

2016

December: Thanks for all your donations for our November fundraiser - we smashed our £500 target. 

December: We were shortlisted in the Telegraph & Argus Community Stars awards - we didn't win but thanks for all your votes and publicity was great. Read more about the awards here

November: We have had to put our scheme for Looked After Children on hold at the moment while we try to sort out how the local authority is managing the registrations. We hope it will be up and running again quickly - email us if you can help this scheme in any way.

We have had a very busy October! Thanks to those who donated to our bucket collection at Tesco Express on Manningham Lane before the Bradford City game on 22 October.

Here is the latest press coverage about our 3rd birthday party and the success we are having with the scheme so far.

Looks like our 500th registration, Subhan, has got the hang of looking at books already!
















In June 2014, Canterbury Imagine trustees met the rather wonderful Dolly Parton, who started the imagination library scheme which we use to deliver free books to under-fives! We are celebrating being part of the Better Start Bradford scheme, which has gained Lottery funding for ten years and will mean thousands of Bradford children in some of the more deprived areas of the city will receive free books.
Dolly looks pleased!

November 2013
Canterbury Imagine has won a bronze award in the Sovereign Health 'Good All Round Awards'. This generous award means that we can provide books for more of Bradford's looked after children.

October 2013
We have just registered our 190th baby on the Canterbury Imagine scheme and we are sending out books to almost 40 looked after children from Bradford.
 
Summer 2013
Many thanks to staff at the DWP on Leeds Road, Bradford, who had a dress down day and raffle at work and raised more than £200 for us. You stars!

We hope the children we have registered are having a happy new year with the delivery of their lovely books. We have sent books to 69 children this month - and numbers are growing every month.
If you live on Canterbury and have a baby born in 2012 or 2013, email me or contact the children's centre to register them.

A 1950s-themed fundraising event at Scoops ice cream parlour in Saltaire raised more than £300! Thanks to everyone involved. The diner's 50s-style deco was pefect for this fun family night.

Parents with babies born in 2012 are invited to our launch event on Friday, 21 Sept, 1pm at Canterbury children's centre. They can register their babies and receive their first book. There will be children's entertainment, some freebies and a big cake too! See you there!

We are really excited about setting up the Imagination Library on Canterbury after a meeting with the Lord Mayor, Councilor Dale Smith, Councilor Ralph Berry, portfolio holder for children's services in Bradford, and Natalie Turnbull, regional director for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.
